The 10 Largest Video Game Maps of All Time Ranked from “Big” to “ARE YOU SERIOUS?!”

There’s nothing like booting up a game, ignoring the main quest, and sprinting in the complete opposite direction just to see what’s out there. I’ve gotten lost in deserts, oceans, jungles and occasionally my own inventory screen. Today, we’re counting down the top 10 largest video game maps of all time, ranked from the “pretty big” to the “oh-no-I-forgot-where-I-live” kind of huge.
Get comfy this is a tour of gaming’s most massive worlds.

10. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Map Size: ~90 sq. miles (233 sq. km)
Let’s kick off with Ancient Greece, where I spent more time chasing down cultists than actually playing the main story. Odyssey feels like a real living world—complete with sailing, mythical monsters, and some of the best views I’ve ever accidentally fallen off of. 😅

9. Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Map Size: ~190 sq. miles (493 sq. km)
Welcome to Auroa, a high-tech island full of deadly enemies and lush forests. This map is big and punishing. I once tried to cross a valley for a mission and ended up in a shootout with drones I didn’t even see on the map. Breakpoint isn’t just large—it makes you earn every inch.

8. The Crew 2
Map Size: ~1,900 sq. miles (4,900 sq. km)
Yes, the entire USA is your playground here. I once drove from Miami to Seattle in-game just to see if I could—and yes, I switched to a plane halfway through. Whether you’re drifting through city streets or flying over the Grand Canyon, this map is an open-world road trip fantasy.

7. Just Cause 3
Map Size: ~400 sq. miles (1,036 sq. km)
Blow it up. Wingsuit away. Rinse and repeat. The island of Medici in Just Cause 3 is huge and vertical. It’s not just wide—there’s a lot going up, too. I spent hours tethering enemies to propane tanks and launching them into the sky. Good times.

6. Xenoblade Chronicles X
Map Size: ~154 sq. miles (400 sq. km)
Even if you’re not a JRPG fan, Mira will blow your mind. Alien worlds, floating mountains, bio-luminescent trees—it’s like Avatar and Star Wars had a baby. Getting around with a mecha makes this already giant world feel even more epic.

5. Arma 3
Map Size: ~1035 sq. miles (2,682 sq. km)
Arma 3 doesn’t care about your fast travel needs. This is a military sim where the terrain is as much of a challenge as your enemy. One time, I had to drive 25 minutes to an outpost… only to get sniped 200m out. Realism, baby.

4. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
Map Size: ~62,000 sq. miles (161,874 sq. km)
Skyrim’s cool and all—but Daggerfall is a monster. It’s procedurally generated and older than most gamers on TikTok, but man… it’s enormous. Entire provinces, hundreds of cities, and endless dungeons. I once traveled for days in-game just to find a blacksmith.

3. Minecraft (Bedrock Edition)
Map Size: ~1.5 billion sq. miles (3.6 billion sq. km)
This isn’t a map—it’s a digital universe. I tried walking to the edge once, and my game begged me to stop. Minecraft’s world is procedurally generated and practically infinite. Build a castle. Build a city. Build an empire. Just don’t dig straight down.

2. Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Map Size: ~197 million sq. miles (Basically Planet Earth lol)
You ever fly over your own house in a game? I have. Multiple times. Using Bing Maps data and real-world weather systems, Flight Simulator gives you the entire planet to explore. And yes, flights are real-time. Hope you packed snacks.

1. No Man’s Sky
Map Size: ~18 quintillion planets
Yeah. You read that right. Quintillion. I’ve found bubble planets, lava planets, mushroom planets, and planets with weird crab-dogs. It’s literally a universe you’ll never finish exploring. And somehow, it’s actually fun now. Thank you, Hello Games.

These massive maps are perfect for anyone who loves to wander and wonder. I’ve rage-quit, fast-traveled, and occasionally gotten emotionally attached to random caves… but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
